- Computer Science
Duration: 2 Year
Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course is structured to meet the requirements of the future technocrats who would need to upgrade their understanding of IT concepts and tools which are relevant to decision making. Knowledge of IT and its effective deployment in functional areas is especially designed to help them outperform in their areas of specialisation and advance their professional growth. It will equip them with the requisite skills to tap the right IT solutions for any organization. It is a three year full time post graduate program, consisting of six semesters, as per the syllabus and schedule of Punjabi University, Patiala. The programs have been carefully planned to meet the needs of students, employers and the society at large in the emerging global business environment. The MCA programme is approved by AICTE and Ministry of HRD India.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Admission to the MCA Course will be as per the rules of Punjabi University/Punjab Government/College.
- Candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) in any discipline /BCA of a recognised university with 50% marks in aggregate. In case of Scheduled Caste/Tribes/Physically Handicapped candidates (at least 40% disability), the percentage shall be 45%. The Candidate must have passed senior secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination or higher degree examination with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Business Statistics/Business Mathematics/ Quantitative Techniques/or equivalent as compulsory/ optional/ additional subject.

This course is inclined more toward Application Development and thus has more emphasis on latest programming language and tools. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been implemented in MSC-IT from academic session 2016-17 as per guidelines of U G.C.

ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ, ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦਿਵਸ (1957 ਈ.) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਆਪਣੇ ਆਰੰਭ-ਦਿਵਸ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਪੇਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਗਰਸਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਹੋਂਦ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀਅਤ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਲ 2006-07 ਵਿਚ ਐਮ.ਏ. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੰਤਵ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਤ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਚੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਵਿਆਪੀ ਖੋਜ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਯੁੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਰੂਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਖ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਐਮ.ਏ. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਆਨਰਜ਼, ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਹਾਰਕ-ਗਿਆਨ, ਅਨੁਵਾਦ, ਤੁਲਨਾਤਮਕ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਠਕ੍ਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲ ਕਦਮੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

Biotechnology is an interface of basic and applied science, where gradual and subtle transformation of science into technology can be witnessed. Biotechnology is defined as the application of scientific and engineering principals to the processing of material by biological agents to provide goods and services. Biotechnology comprise a numbers of technologies based upon increasing understanding of biology at the cellular and molecular level. A wide variety of microorganisms are now being employed as tools in biotechnology to produce useful products or services. Raw materials can be converted to useful finished products both by ordinary chemical processes and by biological means. Generally, the costs of chemical conversion are quite high as the reactions require high temperature or pressure. In contrast, biological alternatives, using microbes or cultured animal or plant cells, operate at physiologically normal conditions of temperature, pressure, pH etc. During the next few decades biotechnology would have overtaken chemical technology, and many such chemicals which are today produced chemically would be made through biotechnology. The application of biotechnology include the production of gasoline from ethanol which in turn is produced from sugar, the production of insulin, the production of hepatitis B vaccine using recombinant DNA technology and the extraction of copper using mineral leaching bacteria. So, this course will make students capable of exploiting enough available opportunities to nourish their skills in emerging biotechnology industry and research . The course shall be spread over two academic years (M.Sc. Part-I and Part-II). Each part shall consist of two semesters.

Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling is a one year programme. The specific purpose of this Post Graduate Diploma is to meet the growing demand for counsellors in schools, rehabilitation centres, clinics/hospitals, special education centres, centres for people with challenges, geriatric centres, remedial study centres, vocational/Career guidance programmes, welfare organizations, nursing profession, hotels/hospitality industry (tourism & travel), adoption agencies, remand homes, marriage/family help centres, helpline services – Suicide Prevention/child helpline, etc., centres for widows/abused women/divorcees, HIV/AIDS patients counselling centres, NGOs/International agencies, support groups for alcoholics/drugs and other substance users, jails/correction centres, tribal welfare organizations, community-based mental health programmes, police training centres, ethnic and human relations programmes, and legislative/environmental agencies.

A Bachelor’s Degree, in any discipline, of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent from a recognised University.
