About the Department:

History department is one of the oldest departments of the College. The department was established by Prof. M.N. Vohra in 1960, Since then the subject has been taught as an elective subject in Bachelor of Arts. In the year 2011, Master of Arts was introduced. The department has made a significant contribution in introducing History and Indian culture to the Youth.

Vision of the Department:

The Department seeks to provide its students transferable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies, through teaching, research and service activities conducted regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Facilities:

Department has its own Library with a wide range of books on the different themes and areas of studies in the discipline of History. During the last nine years the library has been enriched with number of latest books on various aspects of History. Along with this, the infrastructural changes have also been made in the library to upgrade it to the essential requirements. The Departmental Library in total consists more than 100 Reference and Text Books.

Activities of the Department:

Educational Tours:

The department organizes educational tours from time to time for the encouragement of the practical and professional awareness among the students. During these educational tours various important historical places of India have been visited.

Field Work:

have been organized by the department at archaeological sites around Fatehgarh Sahib (Sirhind) such as Sanghol, Brass Aam Khas Bagh. The main objective of our department is to acquaint students with the specifics of history.

Seminars, Conferences, Guest Lectures:

From time to time the department organizes various seminars, guest lectures, quiz competitions, paper reading contest, debate and declamation contests.

Research and Publications:

The Main purpose of the Department is to upgrade the skills of Faculty and students. There are various aspects of our study and Research Programmes in which specifically we emphasize on the Medieval and Modern section of History. The Department is regularly organizing special Lectures of those Historians and Scholars who have made significant contributions in the study of History. The Faculty members of the Department are very keen in research and frequently publish their articles and research papers to different journals and newspapers.
