The acquisition of knowledge about the earth’s surface has remained the prime concern of man. Human beings identify a particular extent of territory of Their acumen and are always curious to know the world outside their living space. Geographers are the great synthesizers. They not only suggest ideas and possible solutions but can reconstruct the similes or the analogies of the past. The Department of Geography was established in the year 2003. The department provides the students with knowledge and skills for civil services and other competitive exams, teaching, environment science, digital cartography, metrology, disaster management, and Geo-informatics. The average annual enrollment of students in Geography (as an elective subject in B.A) is 240.Similarly, the faculty is also imparting education to the students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Agriculture. The department has also started the Certificate Course in Disaster Management from the academic session of 2020-21. The department has well equipped laboratory with sufficient infrastructure including computers and infrastructure for conducting practicals by the students. The primary data and survey-based project reports are introduced in the syllabi, even at the U. G. level, to inculcate research aptitude. The department is a pioneer in signing MoU with a Multinational Company of Nokia-HERE Maps to train students. The department is also networked with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) outreach E-Learning Education Programme under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Government of India, Dehradun. The students of other institutions located in the region are opting for the ISRO outreach facility available with the department. The faculty of the department is fully committed to the mission of quality education and determined to enhance the value addition among students to ensure abetter place for them in the realm of Earth Science and Social Sciences. The core mission of the department is the overall development of the students as along with their studies. The students of the department are actively participating in the outreach activities. No doubt, The department is imparted quality education to the youth of the region. The faculty of the department is having extension ties with scholars of the foreign universities. Eminent scholars from abroad enlighten the students by sharing their experiences to broaden the horizons of the youth. Likewise, extra-curricular activities have been organized by the department. Undoubtedly, the extra-curricular activities help the students in honing their skills. The department helps the matric-level students of the government schools by answering their queries on a helpline number. The faculty members are putting their heart and soul in spreading geographical knowledge. The faculty is consistently engaged in quality research work and outreach activities.
